Edwards’ 3 resolution was…
Resolved, If ever I shall fall and grow dull, so as to neglect to keep any part of these Resolutions, to repent of all I can remember, when I come to myself again.
Edwards knew the man that he wanted to be. Most people simply drift through life without really thinking about much less settling on who they feel called to be. This is huge. Not many people know what they’re about and what they’re not about. What are the values that you want to be known by? What do you stand for? What do you stand against?
Figuring out questions like these takes prayerful reflection and time with God. What is your true north? Life has a way of causing us to drift if we’re not careful. All of us probably know what it’s like when you’re at the beach and you drift away from your blanket. You’re playing in the water and you think you’re staying in the same place but you’re actually moving. You look back and realize that you have drifted some distance from your original spot. It didn’t happen all at once….just a little bit at a time.
What is your sense of true north? Who do you feel called to be? I heard a quote that said, “If you aim at nothing you’ll hit it every time.” This is true of too many people.
