Edwards’ 4th Resolution again shows the level of commitment that he lived at….

Resolved, Never to do any manner of thing, whether in soul or body, less or more, but what tends to the glory of God, nor be, nor suffer it, if I can possibly avoid it.

The goal of his life was simple…the glory of God. The question that first comes to my mind is…what constitutes glorifying God? If glorifying God means anything then surely it means obeying God. And if obeying God means anything then it must mean to do the 2 things that Jesus said fulfill the law and the prophets.

In Luke 10:27 Jesus says, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”

Love. Do we truly love God? Do we truly love people? Regardless of all our accomplishments and all our achievements….if we don’t do these 2 things, it’s all for nothing. I don’t know of any other way that we could possibly love God and others like this if we don’t come to know the love of God that he showed through his Son Jesus Christ. Living a life that is ultimately glorifying to God is about living a life of love.
