I’m sure that most of us would agree that there are a lot of variables in life. Things change rapidly. One trial comes and one goes. Relationships, jobs and surroundings change quickly. So what do we rely on from one moment to the next? What won’t fail us? 

In 2 Corinthians 12 Paul tells us that he was struggling greatly with something. We don’t know what that is, but we know that he pleaded with Jesus to take it away from him. Scripture informs us that Jesus responded to his prayer with some very powerful words. He said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God’s grace was sufficient for Paul. For those of us who call Jesus our Lord, his grace is sufficient for us too….every moment of every single day.

The Greek word in this passage for grace is “charis.” It means, “that which affords joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm, loveliness…” The Greek word for sufficient is “arkeo” and it means, “To be possessed of unfailing strength.” God is calling to each of his kids through this passage. He’s telling us that there hasn’t been and there won’t be a single moment that He won’t give us what it takes to walk through the storms of life. That even when it feels like we are going to break, he will possess us with unfailing strength.

I’ve heard it said before that most people live their lives crucified between two thieves…regret from the past and fear of the future. It gives me great comfort to know that since I surrendered my life to Christ, there hasn’t been a moment, nor will there ever be when God doesn’t have my back. It gives me a sense of confidence as I embrace today even though I don’t know what’s going to happen.

Unfailing strength. This is one of the many blessings that comes along with being a child of God. It’s not something that we are entitled to, but it is something that God graciously bestows upon us.
