edwards

One of my favorite preachers of all time is Jonathan Edwards. Edwards lived in the 1700’s and lived a life of incredible devotion to God. Edwards attended Yale and at a very young age wrote 70 resolutions by which he wanted to live his life. For the next several weeks I’m going to write a short reflection on 1 resolution per day because they are incredible. I hope you find the reflections and the resolutions inspiring and challenging!

Resolution #1

Resolved, That I will do whatsoever I think to be most to the glory of God, and my own good, profit, and pleasure, in the whole of my duration; without any consideration of the time, whether now, or never so many myriads of ages hence. Resolved, to do whatever I think to be my duty, and most for the good and advantage of mankind in general. Resolved, so to do, whatever difficulties I meet with, how many soever, and how great soever.

What I love about this resolution is he is aiming for the absolute best for God and for people. It’s particularly powerful that he says he wants the best regardless of the difficulty. How many people would be able to say that in integrity? I know that I couldn’t. It would be incredible to live your entire life with that type of passion for God’s ultimate best in every arena of life. What is absolutely best for your walk with God? What is absolutely best for your spouse? What is absolutely best for your kids? Are you willing to fight for that?

Looking forward to resolution #2 tomorrow! You can see all of them at http://www.churchplantmedia.com/blog/post/70-resolutions-of-jonathan-edwards/
