field

When it comes to the most important people and things in our lives, there are tons of things that we can do to fight for those investments. When it comes to our marriage and friendships, there are lots of things we can do to protect and better those relationships. We can apologize when we have done wrong. We can read and learn how to be better friends and spouses. We can initiate quality time and pray for the welfare of the relationships. When it comes to our jobs and important projects in our lives, a lot is within our control. We can work hard and give 110% of our effort faithfully utilizing the time and resources at our disposal.

That being said, with all of our relationships and all of our endeavors, there comes a time when we just need to let go. You have prayed, you have worked hard, you have taken the action steps and there just isn’t much else you can do. This is especially hard with relationships. We so want them to work sometimes that we want to control the other person. Sometimes you just have to let go, trust God and hope it works out. If it doesn’t work out, you can at least put your head on the pillow knowing that you gave it everything.

That’s the kind of life I want to live. I want to be the guy who gave it all. I may not have won every time but I left nothing on the field. I fought, prayed, read and worked with every fiber of my being and there just wasn’t anymore that I could do. The worst kind of regret is to know that things could have been different if you had just given it all.

When you think about the relationships and endeavors that matter most in your life, are you leaving anything on the field? My challenge to all of us is to not open the door for that kind of regret to seep in.Â
