I used to always feel like I needed a plan. I needed to know what my next step was and what the future would look like. I loved the idea of being in control of my destiny and I didn’t want to hear anything about forces I couldn’t control. Lately however, one of my favorite ways to look at God is as Author.
One thing that I’ve learned in my journey of walking with God is that he is an incredible author. As I reflect on some of the opportunities I’ve gotten, seemingly random connections I’ve made and the inconceivably well-timed convergence of circumstances at opportune times in my life, I can’t help but see that a really great author was behind it all.
How do I respond to this revelation? To me the answer to this question is simple. Surrender. Surrender. I want to be a pen in his hand. I want to get out of the way and let him do what he already wants to do. I’m convinced that God isn’t confused or indecisive. I don’t believe that he woke up this morning and had a brainstorming session with the angels as to what he ought to do today. I don’t think that I need to add a single thing to his plan.
I believe that my job is to simply surrender all that I am to him. As I do this I am confident that I will be used as a pen in his hand to contribute a few lines to the greatest story ever told.
