Today, we continue our series through Psalms and we are on psalm 36. David starts the psalm by highlighting the nature of those who choose to reject God’s will for their life. He then, partway through the psalm, makes a seemingly random jump to talking about God’s attributes. I went through the psalm a few times and something jumped out at me.

One of the biggest tragedies of sin is that it hides our face from God. Genesis 2:7 says, “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” This means that man’s original place was face to face with his Creator. We’ve drifted a long way since then. The tragedy of sin is that it obscures our view of God…it hides us from him. We lost the light of the world, but therein lies the miracle of this season.

God saw our state and chose to intervene on our behalf. He knew there was no way we would find him on our own, so he came and revealed himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ. He did this to reverse the tragedy of the fall. Now, through Jesus, we can see him again. As we pursue God more and more, the cobwebs get dusted away and we can begin to behold his face again. As we begin to see his face like we did when we were created, the pieces of our lives will start to come together. Like a weary sailor that catches a glimpse of the lighthouse in the midst of a raging storm, we’ll begin to see our way home.
