It’s not about me. That’s a difficult truth for me to swallow. It’s not my money…it’s not my family…it’s not my life or time….it all belongs to God. I’ve been working through the 70 resolutions of Jonathan Edwards and his 43rd resolution is…

Resolved, Never, henceforward, till I die, to act as if I were any way my own, but entirely and altogether God’s; agreeably to what is to be found in Saturday, Jan. 12th.

Sometimes I live as though it was God’s job to assist me in my life’s journey. He’s like a great admin that can take care of anything that I can’t handle. This is the classic case of the tale wagging the dog. My role in life is to be God’s servant. To humble myself under his loving hand and allow him to use me however he sees fit. It’s not my glory and it’s not about my preferences.

I think that especially in America we all fall into an entitlement mentality. My kids are only 1 and 3 but they already understand the concept of, “Mine!” They get it. We didn’t even have to teach them. It’s like it was automatically wired into them.

Happy New Year to all of you and I’m honored that you would devote some of your precious time to this blog. As we kick off a brand new year, let us remember what all of this is supposed to be about. We’re not here for ourselves and if we think we are, we are tragically deceived. Life will only make sense as we orient our lives around the truth that this life is simply not about us. For as long as we think it is, we will continue to encounter all kinds of resistance. My hope for all of us is that we will surrender to the mighty hand of God and allow him to lead us through an amazing new year that will bring him all the glory!
