The concept of faith has always felt somewhat ambiguous to me. How much faith do I have? How much faith do I need? What exactly do I put my faith in? Sure I need to have faith in Jesus but what exactly does that look like? The other day I got some needed clarification regarding faith and it came from a popular passage that I saw in a different light. Hebrews 11:6 says, 

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Here faith is shown to us in a very practical light. It’s not some mystical thing that you need some crazy measure of to see God move. It makes sense. You must believe 2 sensible things if you are going to have a thriving relationship with God. You must believe…

1. God exists.

Pretty straightforward. Do you actually believe that God exists? Of course you’re not going to go to God if you don’t believe that he’s there.

2. That he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Because of a flawed view of God, many of us struggle to believe this. There are times that I feel like if I go to him, it’s not going to work out well. Here are some of the thoughts.

“He’s going to judge me.”

“He’s going to ask me to do something crazy that I don’t want to do.”

“He’s not going to talk to me.”

“I won’t know it’s him talking if he does choose to talk to me.”

The thoughts go on and on but you get the point. If we are going to repeatedly go to God and thus please him, we must believe that he has our best interest at heart. That he’s actually going to reward us as we enter his presence. Now, those rewards admittedly may look very different than what we would expect but we must believe that he’s going to be gracious to us.

If you believe those 2 things through faith, you will find yourself in God’s presence way more often and then the sky is the limit. He will speak to you and bless your life in unimaginable ways but it starts with faith.
