I often wonder what heaven will be like. One of the thoughts related to heaven that I find exciting is the idea that we will finally see clearly. While we are on earth, our view is drastically limited by a multitude of factors that simply accompany being human. In heaven we will not have that problem. We will see clearly. Resolved, That I will act so, as I think I shall judge would have been best, and most prudent, when I come into the future world.

Edwards recognized that a day is coming for all of us when this life will be over. For those who receive the saving grace of Jesus Christ, the death of the body will mean life eternal with God. Then we will see clearly. We will know fully (1 Cor. 13:12). How will we wish we had lived at that point? What kinds of things will hold eternal value and what will not endure beyond the grave? Edwards wanted to live in such a way that he would not have regrets even in heaven.

If we are to live that way we must deeply cultivate our walk with God. We must rivet our attention on his voice and believe that he knows what’s best for us. This world will always have an agenda to throw at us and competing values for us to sift through. If we will choose to see through this world and into the next, we will find ourselves able to live lives that will reverberate with blessings all throughout eternity.
