If you are new to this blog, I’m going through a series right now where I’m taking the 70 resolutions of Jonathan Edwards and going through 1 each day. I’m on resolution number 20 right now and I’ve done one almost every day. I was curious waking up this morning which resolution would fall on Thanksgiving and this is just too funny. Resolution number 20 says…
Resolved, To maintain the strictest temperance in eating and drinking.
Wow….don’t know what to do with that one today. I don’t think Edwards was anti-food or anti-enjoyment. What I hear him saying is that he gets that his body and this life is a gift. He wants to treat them as a gift and to enjoy food but to not let it own him. The best way that we can enjoy and be grateful for the food today and the great people in our lives is to see them as a gift from our loving Creator. I’m thankful in advance for the food I’m going to receive today. I’m thankful for the great people I get to share it with. I’m unbelievably thankful for my beautiful wife and kids. That being said, I’m most thankful for a God that loves me tremendously. I’m most thankful for a Savior that died so that I could live. I’m most thankful for a Holy Spirit that walks with me every step of the way.
Happy Thanksgiving guys!
Chris
