Today, we are on psalm 29 and this one was really humbling for me. I would encourage you to follow the link and check it out. I hate to admit it, but a lot of times I conjure up a god in my head that can’t really do a whole lot about the human condition. He cares, but for some reason, he refuses to really get involved. This is not the God that exists and this psalm reminds me of that.

David is talking about an entirely different God than the one I sometimes default to in my mind. He is talking about a God that makes mountains skip and whose voice “strikes with flashes of lightning.” (Verse 7) This is a God that we can depend on. When you read His resume, it would seem silly to think that he couldn’t handle the problems we face. This is the kind of God that I need. This is the kind of God that we can trust.

In my 14 year relationship with God, I’ve seen him deliver me through a lot of trials…too many to count. I’ve seen him come through in all kinds of miraculous ways. I wish I could tell you that because of all these experiences, I have an incredible trust in God…but that would not be entirely true. Now, don’t get me wrong…I do trust God, but I waver all the time. I still get to certain mountains and certain problems and think, “There is no way I’m getting out of this one…I’ve hit the end of the road.” Listening to this psalm, I was reminded of the fact that God is so much greater than I could ever know. He is so much more powerful than I realize. He can do things that are absolutely shocking and seemingly impossible. A God like that can handle my week….a God like that can handle my life.
