In Mark 10:51 Jesus asked a blind man, “What do you want me to do for you?” I love the questions Jesus asked. They’re always so insightful. So what about you? What do you want God to do for you? Really. I really have to pause and think about that one. It’s an easy question to answer quickly but you have to stop and really think about it. I could say I want a million bucks, a brand new car and a huge house but that’s not what I want at the core of who I am. What do I actually want God to do for me? Some of those things would be…

1. I want to be filled with the fruit of his Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self- control).

2. I want my family to make a big difference in the world.

3. I want my boys to become the men that they’re called to be.

4. I want my wife to fulfill her purpose and I want to help her do that.

5. I want to be the best husband and dad possible.

6. I want to be a wise steward of the resources I’ve been given.

7. I want to be ridiculously generous and be more known for what I gave than what I got.

These are just some of the things that I really want God to help me with. I recognize that I have a lot of responsibility when it comes to these things but I need God’s grace tremendously along the way. What about you? Maybe you should try to make that list. I’ve been working through the 70 resolutions of Jonathan Edwards and resolution 64 says…

Resolved, When I find those ”groanings which cannot be uttered,“ of which the apostle speaks, and those ”breathings of soul for the longing it hath,” of which the psalmist speaks, Psalm cxix. 20. that I will promote them to the utmost of my power; and that I will not be weary of earnestly endeavouring to vent my desires, nor of the repetitions of such earnestness. 

This is part of what Edwards was talking about. Allowing his deepest desires and groanings to be made known to God. So back to you. What do you want God to do for you?
