Proverbs 10:8 says,

The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.

I haven’t always been thankful for authority in my life. There was a time when someone being in charge made me angry and want to run in the opposite direction. This passage in Proverbs is worth taking a look at.

Those who are wise have open hearts. They submit to the authority of God and to the authority of those who have been put in charge over them. Foolishness in this passage is equated with always talking and never listening. James 1:19 says, “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry…” To really open up and be wise, you have to humble yourself.

“The wise in heart accept commands.” Who are you submitted to? Who do you accept commands from? If you’re on your own always talking and never listening, you’re foolish. The good news is that we all have the opportunity to change and open up to God and to other people.
