A couple of years ago, I was on a trip to Uganda, Africa with Seacoast Missions Pastor, Jason Surratt. As we neared the end of a long day of flights, we found ourselves seated next to a young man named Ben who was a youth pastor at a church in the capitol city of Kampala. We shared stories of our respective churches, talked about where our recent travels had taken us, and swapped business cards so that we could keep in touch.

While that could be the end of a nice story, there was something that Ben said while we were talking that stuck with me: He told us that while he enjoys working at a good church in a busy city, his real desire was to move to the neighboring country of Kenya and minister there. He explained that Uganda was actually very open to the gospel, and that’s good, but the people of Kenya remain largely unreached… And he wants to reach them.

Ben wasn’t interested in staying comfortable in a place that he was familiar with, he was praying for boldness to go to a place that wasn’t likely to be so friendly, because he knew that people there needed Jesus.
