I know I’m going super old school on this one but I would still imagine that many of us have seen the 1st Matrix movie. Without going into too much detail…there comes a moment when Morpheus gives Neo the decision of whether or not to know the truth behind the world that he is living in. One pill will catapult him back into lala land where he can believe whatever he wants and one pill will open his eyes to what will prove to be a painful reality. The red pill or the blue pill.

The red pill symbolizes truth and the blue pill symbolizes deception. Which one would you choose? Which one would I choose? Do we really want to know the truth about who we are? Do we really want to know the truth about whether or not God exists?

It can be quite comfortable believing lies. For example, if you allow yourself to believe that eating poorly is not hurting your body, you can be comfortable for a long time. If you avoid the doctor and the obvious warning signs as they arise, you will get to enjoy tons of tasty treats. But I think that we all know that at some point the bottom will drop out. There are other examples of this as well. You can keep on pretending that you can get away with wasting time at work and not pay the price for it but I think we all know the reality. We know that when the promotion comes, you’re probably not the one who is going to get it. At some point and in some way you will pay for your decisions.

The red pill or the blue pill. Uncomfortable truth or pleasant fiction. We have many choices between the red pill or the blue pill on a daily basis. Do we ask the probing question of our spouse even though it may illicit an answer that we might not like? Do we go to the doctor knowing that there is a possibility that he may find something that we didn’t know was there? Do we ask a close friend a question that we may or may not like the answer to? The red pill or the blue pill. Truth or lies. Reality or fiction. We get to decide day to day and moment to moment.

Why do you think it’s so tough sometimes to choose the red pill? Why is the blue pill so seductive?
