Let’s be honest. He’s not going anywhere. You hear him yelling at you. His voice is inside your head. You try to shut it out but somewhere, deep down, you know that this is your fight.
Goliath is that conversation with that person you REALLY don’t want to have. Goliath is that issue that you’ve been hiding that you REALLY don’t want to deal with. It’s that problem or adversary that is head and shoulders taller than all the rest. He’s big. He’s ugly. He’s mean…and he’s out for blood.
Most people don’t ever choose to fight Goliath. They hope that someone else will step up and do it. Maybe they think that they can wait him out and he’ll just go away. Some people try to make friends with Goliath and hope they can get him on their side.
It doesn’t work that way. Goliath is either going to make your life miserable or you’re going to need to take him down. There is no way of getting around it. It may be alcoholism. It may be a core fear. I don’t know what it is for you but the only way you’ll ever live in freedom is if you kill that beast.
Listen to what David said to Goliath in 1 Samuel 17:45, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
The reality about Goliath is that he is just too big for you to conquer on your own. You’re going to need God for this one. In the next post I’ll talk about how to get ready for the fight but the fight is coming. If you know what I mean by having a Goliath in your life, you know that it’s kill or be killed. You had better start getting ready.
