story

If you’re checking out this blog for the first time, I am doing a series where I’m going through the 70 resolutions of Jonathan Edwards one at a time. The 17th resolution is definitely one of the most powerful for me so far. He said,

Resolved, That I will live so, as I shall wish I had done when I come to die.

Someday our lives will be a story that we tell people about. Stories can be tragic….they can be happy…they can be adventurous…they can be a lot of things. How will we wish we had lived when we come to die? I have some ideas.

Love.

We’ll wish we had given and received love more fully. We’ll wish we had received the love God had for us and the love that people had for us. We’ll wish we had given love with more abandonment and passion. I think that many times each day we come up to little pivotal decisions that can have a massive cumulative impact. Should we have a quiet time this morning or not? Should we call our family today or not? Should we workout or not? Should we confess that secret or not? Little cumulative decisions that bring incredible cumulative results…for better or for worse.

This is one of those resolutions we ought to adopt for our lives. All of this will just be a story that we tell someday. What kind of story will it be? You get to decide.
