I think that we could all agree that how we see ourselves is tremendously important. Most see their identity as being intimately wrapped up in what they do. We live in a culture that idolizes achievement where you are only as good as your last performance. If you are making a lot of money, you’re doing great. If your job is going well, then you feel good about yourself. If the people around you are praising you, you can go to sleep well at night. Unfortunately the opposite is also true. When your identity is wrapped up in your performance, failure is devastating. When you fail, you feel like you’re a failure. There is a tremendous amount of stress in all that you do because what you do is the same as who you are.
