We live in a world where subjectivity reigns. Many even reject the notion of a universal right and wrong. As soon as you start stating moral imperatives, people get suspicious. This is all the more reason why those who claim to follow God must stand up for what is right and just.

Proverbs 10:10 says…

People who wink at wrong cause trouble, but a bold reproof promotes peace.

Most people enjoy being the life of the party. Most would naturally prefer to be liked by others. Doing the right thing is not always doing the popular thing. Winking at wrong is easy to do. It doesn’t stir up the pot. It doesn’t make waves. People will label you as “easygoing” and they’ll say that you “go with the flow.”

Bringing a bold reproof to someone is difficult. It’s even more difficult when that person is a close friend or a colleague. We all need friends who are willing to challenge us even if that means hurting our feelings. Our society needs people who are willing to say the hard thing and ask the tough questions when most would prefer to not be bothered. This means standing up for a standard that is beyond human preference. This means seeking God for what is truly right and wrong and choosing to live in submission to him.
